Use templates and merge fields

Communications → Templates provides email and social template editing. The message builder also offers saved canvas layouts. A canvas layout controls reusable block structure; an automation’s email/social template supplies source-based content for that workflow.

Create or update the relevant email or social template, save it, then select it in the communication or automation that will use it. Review channel formatting rather than assuming the same copy will fit every destination.

Use the merge fields supported by the editor or template workflow. Preserve their exact spelling and double-curly syntax where used. Do not replace a placeholder with a guessed field name. Preview using a real record and send a test to verify personalized values.

Check that the field is supported in that context and the source record contains a value. A subscriber field and a campaign/source-record field may not be interchangeable. Inspect the rendered preview, not only the template’s saved source.
